Renting Textbooks
-
· You don’t plan to keep/need the book after the course is done
· You won’t need the book for another course – for example, a two-semester sequence
· You don’t need any supplements like access cards, CDs, etc. that may come with a new book and usually do not come with rentals (or used copies) – if your school has let us know you need those supplements, we won’t offer the book for rent (or in used condition)
· You believe you will take care of the book so it will be returned to us in re-salable condition
· You know you can return it to us on time at the end of the rental period
· You prefer to save on the price of the book upfront (in most cases), you just want to pay for the time you use it
· We can offer the book as a rental because it is not a workbook, looseleaf or other version that would not be in resalable condition at the end of the term
**Rentals are not available for students residing outside the continental United States. -
· You select the Rental option (when offered) and the return period (if more than one is offered) as you select the textbooks you’ll need by course. Your school has provided information on the school’s calendar - class end dates and finals - so we can offer an appropriate rental period/due date.
· You will be asked to provide a credit/debit card as collateral and will be charged for a replacement copy (so we can put it back in our inventory) if our book is not returned on time using the Free UPS label provided in your account or does not come back to us in re-saleable condition.
· Normal use is fine while you have the book – highlighting and notes, unless excessive, are not a problem. If water damage, broken spines, missing pages/covers or other issues make it impossible for us to rent or sell it again, the book must be paid for through your Account at the Virtual Bookstore or you will be charged full list price for a replacement.
You are responsible for knowing the due date - keep track of your due date so you don’t let it slip by – it is available to you at all times in the My Orders and Manage My Rentals sections of your account at the Online Textbook Source.
· If you decide you want to keep the book, or need it for some additional time, you can purchase or extend the rental in your account at the Virtual Bookstore – this needs to be done before the due date or the book will show as “outstanding” and incur a non-return fee
· Return the book by the due date using the FREE UPS label provided in your account (use of this FREE label is required). It must be in the UPS tracking system by that due date.
· Please do not combine shipments – for example, if you have books to sell back and rental books to return at the end of the rental period/due date create two shipments with separate labels and packaging. Combining them will delay or prevent payment and check-in.
-
Wondering if all books are available as rentals? They are not, and the most common reasons are below.
· The item is only suitable for one time use, it’s a loose-leaf/3-hole punch book or a workbook, an access card or a lab supply kit, or it comes with required items such as CDs, access cards or codes.
· There is not a demand for the book in future terms, perhaps there is a new edition being published or we have enough in our inventory.
· The book is an inexpensive item that doesn’t warrant return shipping and extra handling – an example might be a paperback novel.

Rentals MUST come back on time and in re-salable condition.
REMEMBER: at the end of your rental period, simply print your FREE* UPS/United Parcel Service return shipping label and packing slip by signing into your account at the Online Textbook Source website and selecting Manage My Rentals and choose Return My Rentals for Free. Pack your book(s) in any box available that will protect it in transit and take it to any UPS location – ask for a receipt so you have a record of them accepting your package. This label is not for the Post Office so the package cannot be taken to them for shipment.
You are responsible for returning the rental(s) by the date specified at the time of your order using the UPS label from your account . We cannot be responsible for any charges that result from shipping back your rentals in any other way.
If your rental item is not scanned into UPS tracking by the due date with the FREE UPS shipping label we provide, or if your item is received in damaged condition, you will be subject to a charge equal to the list price of a new copy for this item so we can replace it in our inventory.
By choosing rentals and placing your order, you have agreed to the terms and conditions in the Textbook Rental Agreement detailed below.
*Returns are only free for students within the continental United States.

A fee will be charged to the credit card on file of any customer returning a damaged book and the book will NOT be returned to you. The fee will be assessed at the discretion of eCampus.com and may up to the replacement fee of the book
You may email us at bookstore@ecampus.com if you have any questions.

A valid, active credit or debit card which is tied to a financial institution is required for any rental transaction and it must have an expiration date later than the rental due date. You agree to keep your credit card or debit card in good standing during the term of your rental. Financial Aid or other credits may be used to pay the rental fee when the order is placed but a valid, active debit or credit card must also be provided as collateral in case the rental book(s) is not returned, lost or damaged. The Online Textbook Source Program accepts Visa, MasterCard, American Express, and Discover. You hereby acknowledge and agree that the Online Textbook Source Program may charge you for any lost, stolen, or damaged books associated with your account. The Online Textbook Source Program will charge an additional amount to your credit or debit card if you choose to buy any rented book at any time during the rental period. If you know you cannot return the book on time due to damage, loss or theft, it is better to follow the instructions below for Purchasing Your Rental before the due date. The fee in that situation will factor in the rental fee already paid in calculating the amount due. If the book is still “outstanding” on the due date, the fee assessed will be the full replacement cost.

Once the book is in your possession, you are responsible for its condition. Damage to a rented book is defined as any condition that makes the book unusable as a future rental. Such conditions include any water damage, a broken spine, missing pages, missing or torn covers, excessive highlighting (more than half of the content), excessive or inappropriate notes or any other such condition that makes the book unsuitable for future use. If you receive a book that you feel is not in acceptable condition for your use and, when returned, may be assessed as unsaleable, please contact Customer Service when the book is received to resolve the issue.
A fee will be charged to the credit/debit card on file of any customer returning a damaged book. The fee will be assessed at the discretion of the Virtual Bookstore Program and will be the replacement cost (full list price) of a new copy of the book. An email will notify customer of the charge with the offer to return the book free of charge if the request is received in 7 days.
-
If you find you need your book for an additional period of time, you can extend the rental period by selecting the dropdown for "Add Days" in the Rental section of your account at the Online Textbook Source. This allows you to extend your rental - the fee for the extension is based on the length of time selected. The new due date is shown during the transaction and the book must be returned by the new due date. Complete this extension before the original due date.

If you rent a text, and decide that you'd rather keep the item than return it, the option to purchase it is available. This option can also be used if the book cannot be returned because it is lost. Log in to the My Account section of our site, and click on the Manage Rentals/Returns tab. In the drop-down to the right of the book title, you will see the options to extend or buy the text . After you’ve made the choice, you will check out using a credit/debit card or Financial Aid/book vouchers if funds are available to you. Complete this purchase before the original due date.
