Summary

This book for the most part, is a collection of poems with clinical underpinnings of physician-patient moments of interactions. Every poem is an offspring of such private moments. Birthed in the deepest recesses of soul, each poem emerges privately, joyously, at times sobbing, but always intensely laden with emotion. Isolated from friends and family, physicians and patients frequently share private, frightening, and almost always, emotionally laden moments one-on-one. Sprinkled occasionally with joyous outcomes, for the most part however, these one-on-one private moments are less about outcomes. In the cul-de-sac of physician-patient interaction are draped, multi-layered fabrics with in-built intentionality for the revelation of truths; truths, on the nature of the inner workings of the immortal man. No wonder therefore, bracketed between health and ill-health, between the living and the dying, between the known and the unknown, physicians and patients are in effect born bonded, born yoked, born into an eternal covenant as revealers of truths. This collection, though celebrating this unique covenant eternal, though grounded in materials clinical, though emblazoned with the bold strokes of verse, its multi-textured fabric should fool no one. At its very core, this collection is a spiritual quest: an exploration of man's immortality in a mortal world. Thinly veiled by ill-health, disease, suffering, physical deprivation and even physical death, patients are by a natural bent, revealers of paths, teachers of truths, and unbeknownst to some, physicians included, true angels in our midst.
