Dieser Band legt zum ersten Mal eine deutsche Übersetzung des altfranzösischen Heldenepos Aliscans vor, das Wolfram von Eschenbach als Vorlage zu seinem Versroman Willehalm diente, einem der bedeutendsten Werke des deutschen Mittelalters und der Weltliteratur. Primäre Textgrundlage ist die Ausgabe nach der venezianischen Handschrift M (Holtus 1985), also diejenige Druckfassung, welche Wolframs Vorlage am nächsten steht. Studierenden der Germanistik soll hiermit ein direkter Vergleich ermöglicht werden, aus dem die starke inhaltliche Abhängigkeit ebenso hervorgeht wie die völlig neue Form- und Sinngebung durch den deutschen Autor.
