Summary

This fully updated 3rd edition offers recommendations about everything from canteens and camping stoves to rain gear and tents. It explains how to walk - yes, how to walk - with a heavy pack, as well as how to stow what you need in the most comfortable and compact way. Useful appendices include an equipment list for a walk in the woods, an equipment list for overnighting, an outdoor first aid kit, and a list of American Hiking Club local affiliates. With this handy book you'll discover how to plan a trip with the right level of challenge, select the appropriate gear and provisions for your trip, get your hiking boots to fit you comfortably, find your way in the wilderness, and prepare a quick, easy and hearty meal.
